Music Works & comments
The five different music movements I’ve chosen to talk about are reggae, pop, concerto, opera and jazz. My favorite reggae group is definitely UB40. My dad got me listening to UB40 because he’s listened to reggae his entire and I grew up listening to their songs because of him. Because this reggae band began in 1978, the technology used was very minimal. Reggae music uses drums at the center of its music. My favorite song by UB40 is Red Red Wine. My favorite pop music star is Beyoncé. Beyoncé elevates the prevalence of hip-hop culture and black vernacular into her pop songs and effortlessly proves that commercial bangers and true art do not have to be exclusive. Her song Destiny’s Child is what I feel put her on the map. Beyoncé made concerts spectacles worth seeing again and brought artistry and precision back to the live performance. She is an unapologetic feminist and uses her platform to showcase intersectionality. Opera is an art form that tells a story through music and singing. Unlike a musical, opera singers do not use microphones to amplify their voices, and the music, played by the orchestra, is completely live. My favorite opera group is Tenori e Bassi. Sensational opera group Tenori e Bassi consist of four charming and incredibly talented male opera singers. They perform opera classic through to arrangements of modern day hits. All four of these singers trained at some of the greatest music conservatoires in the world. The group was formed in 2016, following in the foots of the three tenors. I have had the opportunity to see them preform and it was excellent. My favorite jazz musician is Charles Lloyd. Lloyd has been an unacknowledged genius working in plain sight for far too long. Every note he plays is valuable, he is the eternal storyteller whose melodic lines assume a narrative arc whose logic somehow seems analogous to the ages old storyteller’s art. He produced a very highly successful album in 2018 called Vanished Gardens. Vanished Gardens is my favorite thing to listen to during study sessions and homework.
Performance art definition
My personal perspective of performance art is that it relates to things such as dance, music, opera, theatre and musical theatre, magic, illusion, mime, spoken word, puppetry and circus arts and other arts of that nature. There are also specialized forms of fine art, such as caricature artists, in which the artists perform their work live to an audience. Performance art allows you to express yourself and tell a story through what makes you happy and allowing people to witness and understand it from their own perspective. This time based art form typically features a live presentation to an audience or to onlookers such as passers by on the street. I’ve seen some beautiful forms of performance art and my favorite one happens to be watching The Radio City Rockettes Christmas Spectacular in New York City. One of the more casual art performances I've seen is a man using buckets as a drum set in the subway station.
21st century tech.
One of the biggest twenty first century technologies is the iPhone. The iPhone has evolved from many different forms, beginning with the first iPhone which was released in 2007. As crazy as it sounds, the first iPhone did not have an App Store. A year later in 2008, the iPhone 3G which wasn’t much different from the original iPhone but it did have an App Store was released. In 2010, the iPhone 4 came out which was the first iPhone to ever have a front facing camera. When the iPhone 4S came out in 2011, people were dying to have it because of this little gadget we call Siri. The iPhone 5’s screen was the first ever to be enlarged from the original model in 2012. iPhone 5S introduced Touch ID, dual flash, and slow-motion video in 2013 while the iPhone 5C was meant to be slightly more affordable and had a plastic shell. It was available in fun, bright colors for the first time ever. In 2014, they started the idea of the regular and Plus version, starting with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6Plus. They soon graduated to the 7 and 7Plus, 8 and 8Plus. In recent years, we’ve seen X, XS, XS MAX and XR come out with slight differences each time. This is when we see facial recognition come alive. In 2019, the iPhone 11 came out and this year, as of 2020, the iPhone 12 was released. Each iPhone had an influence on the one that came after it but the evolution of the iPhone was really what was expected, nothing seriously shocking about the smart phone. A commonality we keep seeing with the iPhone is the length. If the phone keeps getting significantly longer each year, we might as well try to stuff an iPad in our pocket, it’s just getting all too inconvenient. The point of the iPhone started out as convenience but it has really only been getting more impractical and more addictive, which is a huge problem. If iPhones have influenced there own technology so much that they can keep creating version after version for over a decade adding new technologies each time, future technologies will definitely be influenced as well.

Angel de Quintas Stage Door
After looking into Angel de Quinta's Stage Door blog, I gained some new insights about broadway performances. One performance that stood out to me was "Fifty Percent." The song is about a woman who is having an affair with a married man, and so she is only able to have fifty percent of him. The song is an expression of the woman's emotions about her situation. I really liked Barbra Streisand's cover of the song. She has such a powerful voice and sings with not just her voice, but with her heart. Another broadway show that I liked from the blog was the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory clip. The whole set, costumes, props, singing, and dancing was great and truly shows the excitement and beauty of broadway performances. It shows how far the creation of musicals has evolved over time. Finally, my third favorite clip from the blog was Micheal Buble's cover of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." It’s just such a classic song by an amazing artist.
